Abstract:Based on moral exclusion theory, this study uses polynomial regression and response surface analysis to analyze 313 leader-member pairs in three waves to explore the effect of leader-member bottom-line mentality congruence on abusive supervision. The results show that the more congruent the leader-member bottom-line mentality is, the lower level of deep dissimilarity perceived by supervisor. Under the situation of congruence, compared with the “low-low” combination, the “high-high” combination has a lower level of deep dissimilarity perceived by supervisor; Under the situation incongruence, compared with “high-low” combination, the “low-high” combination has a lower level of deep dissimilarity perceived by supervisor. Leader-member bottom-line mentality congruence has an indirect impact on abusive supervision through deep-level dissimilarity perceived by supervisor. Further, subordinate performance negatively moderates the indirect effect of leader-member bottom-line mentality congruence on abusive supervision through perceived deep-level dissimilarity.
