Abstract:Based on 360 employees in 31 branches of one largescale stateowned bank, a series of analysis exhibits that high performance work systems (HPWS) can significantly promote employee psychological wellbeing (enhancing work vigor and reducing emotional exhaustion), and employee selfefficacy partially mediates the relationship between HPWS and psychological wellbeing. The research results reveals that HPWS not only improves employee performance, but also promotes employee psychological wellbeing by developing their ability of achieving happiness. This study further suggests that scholars should shed light on the potential mediating effect of employee expectations between HPWS and psychological wellbeing in future research.
