Abstract:Based on a survey of 782 employees from manufacturing and service industry, the impacts and mechanisms of high performance work system on employee engagement were explored. The results show that the positive effects of high performance work system on employee engagement is not direct, and the core concept of wellbeingpositive emotion and job satisfaction fully mediate their relations. However, negative emotion doesn’t play a mediating role. This study also discovers that high performance work system is a motivated work environment system, which is beneficial for organization to stimulate employees’ intrinsic work motivation and positive psychological experience. In addition, results also show that work wellbeing is key for promoting employee engagement. Organizations are expected to pay more attention to employee emotional management and develop employees’ strengths or virtues, so as to build a happyproductive workplace.
