Abstract: Objective To investigate the status of and factors associated with fear of progression in HIV/AIDS young men who have sex with men. Methods With convenience sampling, from July to December in 2021, 286 HIV/AIDS young men who have sex with men were selected from HIV outpatient clinic of Nanfang Hospital. General information questionnaire, Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form, Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire, Social Support Rating Scale and Internalized HIV Stigma Scale were used to conduct the investigation. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of fear of progression in HIV/AIDS young men who have sex with men. Results The total score of fear of progression of HIV/AIDS young men who have sex with men was 29.26±10.08. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that whether with a history of AIDS-related diseases/symptoms or not, different medical coping styles, social support and internalized stigma entered the regression equation (P<0.05), which explained 45.3% of the total variation. Conclusion Fear of progression of HIV/AIDS young men who have sex with men is at a medium or lower level, which is affected by whether with a history of AIDS-related diseases/symptoms or not, different medical coping styles, social support and internalized stigma. Various ways of health education on AIDS knowledge, potential positive psychology of the patients, and less internalized stigma are conducive to reducing fear of disease progression in HIV/AIDS young men who have sex with men.

Key words: men who have sex with men, HIV, AIDS, fear of progression, medical coping style, social support, internalized stigma
