Current Status of Vocational Maturity of Higher Vocational Nursing Students and Its Influencing Factors

Abstract: Objective To investigate the current status of vocational maturity of higher vocational nursing students and analyze its influencing factors. Methods From October 2021 to February 2022, stratified random cluster sampling method was used to select 918 vocational nursing students from 4 vocational colleges in Guangdong Province as the research objects. General information questionnaire, Vocational Maturity Scale for College Students, Empathy Scale for Nursing Students and Perceived Social Support Scale were used to investigate the students. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of vocational nursing students’ vocational maturity. Results The total score of vocational maturity of nursing students was 110.74±12.12. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that grade, attitude towards nursing specialty, whether engaging in nursing work after graduation, family atmosphere, total score of empathy ability and total score of perceived social support were important influencing factors of vocational nursing students’ career maturity (P<0.001), which explained 32.5% of the total variation. Conclusion The vocational maturity of higher vocational nursing students is at the mediate or above level. Different vocational courses for different grades, harmonious family atmosphere, empathy training courses to improve the empathy ability of nursing students, and sufficient social support are beneficial to improving the vocational maturity of higher vocational nursing students.
