Abstract: Objective To explore the mediating effect of self-efficacy between emotional intelligence and cultural intelligence among nursing undergraduates. Methods With convenience sampling method, 510 nursing undergraduates from a medical university in Anhui Province were surveyed by using general information questionnaire, Cultural Intelligence Scale(CIS), Wong&Law Emotional Intelligence Scale(WLEIS) and General Self-efficacy Scale (GSES). Structural equation modeling was used for evaluate the mediating effect of self-efficacy between emotional intelligence and cultural intelligence. Results The total score of cultural intelligence, emotional intelligence and self-efficacy of nursing undergraduates was 93.92±13.34, 81.62±12.51 and 24.68±4.65 respectively. Self-efficacy was positively correlated with cultural intelligence and emotional intelligence(r=0.532,0.536,P<0.01)and emotional intelligence was positively correlated with cultural intelligence(r=0.693,P<0.01). Self-efficacy played a partial mediating effect between emotional intelligence and cultural intelligence (β=0.105, P<0.01). The direct and indirect effects of emotional intelligence on cultural intelligence were 0.709 and 0.105 respectively. Conclusion The score of cultural intelligence, emotional intelligence and self-efficacy of nursing undergraduates is at the medium level and emotional intelligence can indirectly affect cultural intelligence through self-efficacy. Positive educational strategies should be considered to cultivate the emotional intelligence and self-efficacy of nursing undergraduates, so as to improve their cultural intelligence.
