Latent profile analysis of career exploration behavior and its influencing factors among undergraduate nursing interns

Abstract: Objective To explore the potential types and influencing factors of career exploration behavior of undergraduate nursing interns. Methods A total of 368 undergraduate nursing students were investigated by using the General Information Questionnaire, Career Exploration Scale (CES), Career Adapt-abilities Scale (CAAS), Parental Career-related Behaviors (PCB) and General Self-Efficacy (GSE) Scale. Multinominal and ordinal logistic regression analysis was used to identify the influencing factors associated with the potential categories of career exploration behavior. Results The career exploration behavior of undergraduate nursing interns was divided into 3 potential categories including negative career exploration (36.14%), medium career exploration (57.34%), and positive career exploration type (6.52%). Career adaptability (OR=0.948, P<0.001), parental career support (OR=0.879, P<0.001), and self-efficacy (OR=0.834, P<0.001) were the influencing factors of the latent profiles in career exploration behavior of undergraduate nursing interns. Conclusion There are 3 potential categories of career exploration behavior in undergraduate nursing interns. More attention should be paid to the interns of “negative career exploration”, and improved career adaptability, a good family career support system and enhanced self-efficacy are conducive to fostering career exploration behavior.
