Abstract: Objective To To analyze and compare the hotspots and frontiers of the application of virtual reality in the field of nursing at home and abroad, to provide reference for the follow-up research. Methods We retrieved databases of CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP and Web of Science for literature on virtual reality in the field of nursing from the inception to 2020. The visual analysis was conducted by CiteSpace V software. Results We collected 184 Chinese articles and 108 English ones. The research in English focused on nursing education and burn, and the research objects were mainly students; The research trend was the rehabilitation nursing of nervous system diseases. Domestic research focused on nursing teaching and stroke, and the research objects were mainly the elderly. The research trend was delivery care. Conclusion Research hotspots and trends in this field help the researchers to follow the step of the foreign counterparts to learn from advanced experience and further improve virtual reality technology. Nurses should also participate into the development of VR equipment and procedures more suitable for Chinese patients from a clinical perspective thus to promote the development of nursing in China.
