Abstract: A shared platform providing inventory services for two retailers is considered in this study. These two retailers may or may not share demand information with the platform. After the demand is realized, the platform can reallocate inventory for them when one retailer is out of stock and the other is overstocked. Thus, the optimal ordering and inventory reallocating problem in information sharing was studied. The ordering and inventory reallocating models with sharing and non-sharing demand information were established respectively. Furthermore, the critical condition for retailers to share real information, the coordination price of transshipment under trust, and the penalty mechanism under distrust were discussed. The results show that truthful demand information sharing is not an equilibrium and the retailer has incentives to falsely share its information; retailer’s inventory level is linearly related to the information it shares, but not related to the information shared by the other; both transshipment price coordination mechanism and penalty ceiling coordination mechanism can promote the sharing of effective information.
