Serious games in nursing education: research hotspots and trends

Abstract: Objective To analyze the current situation and development context of the research on serious games in nursing education, and provide reference for nursing teaching. Methods Relevant literature on serious games in nursing education indexed in the Web of Science core database and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) was systematically retrieved, with the retrieval time limit from the inception of the database to August 1, 2023. Visual analysis was performed using VOSviewer 1.6.19 and CiteSpace 5.8.R3. Results A total of 424 articles were included, including 100 in Chinese and 324 in English; The English research hotspots included escape room, digital health, teaching technology, etc. while the Chinese research hotspots included escape room, teaching model, teaching method, etc. Conclusion Research on the application of serious games in nursing education shows an overall upward trend. Domestic research in this field is still at the primary development stage compared with that in other countries. In the future, we should draw on international experience, strengthen interdisciplinary and international exchanges and cooperation, and further explore hot topics.
