Abstract: Objective To analyze the status quo, and research hotspots of the psychology of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in the past decade with bibliometrics. Methods The psychological research related to IBD included in the core database of Web of Science was retrieved. Citespace 5.7 was used to analyze the frequency of research institutions and journal types of relevant literature, and the co-occurrence network, burst terms and cluster analysis of keywords were conducted. Results The number of articles on the psychology of patients with IBD showed a linear upward trend in recent ten years. The top 3 countries with the most published articles were the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. The distribution of high frequency keywords includes different subjects and different variables related to mental health. Its tendency ranged from the preliminary psychological stress investigation to the exploration, intervention and management of specific psychological problems. The clustering results showed that there were many psychological problems involved, the relationship between physical symptoms and psychological problems, and the adverse outcomes. Conclusion there is increasing attention to IBD psychological research. It is important for China to speed up the research and strengthen cooperation and exchanges with foreign institutions. Research on the psychological field of IBD patients presents the characteristics of the population, and relevant scientific theories need to be introduced to further explore the relevant variables. In addition, the clustering of psychological studies suggests that we should carry out a comprehensive assessment of psychological conditions through scientific and systematic tools, identify psychological problems as soon as possible, and carry out targeted interventions to avoid and prevent adverse outcomes. The interrelation between physical symptoms and psychological problems should be regulated and managed at the same time.

Key words: inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, mental health, bibliometrics
