Abstract: Objective To explore the mediating effects of career outcome expectations between perceived social support and professional commitment in masters of nursing. Methods Convenience sampling was used to select 369 enrolled masters of nursing from seven common institutions from August to November 2022 as respondents, and the Nursing Professional Commitment Scale, the Perceived Social Support Scale, and the Career Outcome Expectancy Scale were used to construct and test the mediation model. Results The total score of professional commitment was 92.81±16.27; the score of perceived social support was 65.88±11.54, and that of career outcome expectations was 44.15±7.43. Correlation analysis showed that the total score of professional commitment was positively correlated with the total score of perceived social support (r=0.357), the score of family support (r=0.333), friend support (r=0.323) and other support (r=0.347), and the total score of expected career outcome(r=0.537)(all P<0.001). Career outcome expectations fully mediated the relationship between perceived social support and professional commitment, accounting for 69.3% of the total effect. Conclusion The score of professional commitment, perceived social support and career outcome expectations of this group is all moderately high, and career outcome expectations fully mediates the relationship between perceived social support and professional commitment. It is suggested that the government, nursing educators and families should increase their support for masters of nursing to improve their career outcome expectations, thereby enhancing their professional commitment and stabilizing the nursing talent pool.
