A survey of 100 managers from SMEs, an examination of 100 management development programs, and four evaluations/case studies of managers were made in Thailand to study managerial competencies. The results indicated that the development of strategic thinking was essential during the time of economic recovery in Thailand. The managerial competencies,sach as strategic thinking, creative thinking, interpersonal communication, passionate visionary leadership, and entrepreneurial,could greatly reward the managers.The investigation of 100 programs in Thailand found that many programs by Thailand for managerial competencies the development of the needs of managerial competencies of Thai managers from SMEs. Based on the evaluation of four managers in case studies,it was seen that the programs showed their weaknesses,in the suggested three-stage learning system,the “analysis of needs” stage considered the most crucial component, as managers coald screen and select that of the training needs assessment model.The existing materials of training needs assessment could be adopted and used for the development of this pre-program, “analysis of needs” stage. The study showed some relevance to Chinese managers,havcing similar cultural factors applying.
