Abstract:Using machine learning and text analysis methods to construct proxy variable for managerial long-termism, based on intertemporal choice theory and taking Chinese A-share listed companies as samples, this study examines how managerial reputation shapes long-termism and the situational roles of Confucian culture and economic policy uncertainty in this process. The results show that managerial reputation has a significant positive impact on managerial long-termism; When enterprises are located in areas with greater influence from Confucian culture or stronger external economic policy uncertainty, the impact of managerial reputation on long-termism is more significant; By shaping long-termists through their reputation, managers can optimize performance in reducing violations, improving internal control quality, enhancing information transparency and promoting social responsibility undertakings in terms of value allocation while promoting technological innovation, green innovation, digital transformation and high-quality development in terms of value creation.
