Abstract：Control and trust were viewed as two indispensable governance mechanisms in PPP projects. Their interacting effects would be affected by the role perception, which eventually determined the result of contract performance. Firstly, role perception of the private was defined as four types according to the enterprise types of the private, including father-son relationship, brotherhood, friendship and trading relationship. Four representative cases of PPP were selected separately. Secondly, the influence of control of contract terms by the government on trust perception of the private was explored under the four role perceptions through the comparative analysis of multiple cases. The main findings are as follows: ①under the role perceptions of the father-son relationship or friendship, control of contract terms is usually lower, and it seems to show the negative correlation with competence trust which is perceived by the private; ②under the role perceptions of the brotherhood or trading relationship, control of contract terms is usually higher, and it virtually shows the positive correlation with goodwill trust which is perceived by the private; ③role perception has no significant effect on the relationships between control of contract terms and goodwill trust which is perceived by the private.
