Development and application of compression band for Endoscopic Trans-axillary Thyroid Surgery

Abstract: Objective To develop a new type of compression band for endoscopic trans-axillary thyroid surgery and to explore its application effect. Methods A self-designed compression band was developed with comfortable wearing and tunnel compression effect. The band comprised four parts of shoulder strap, arm strap, axilla strap and compression bag. Patients who underwent unilateral endoscopic trans-axillary thyroid surgery in department of thyroid surgery of our hospital from March 2022 to October 2022 were divided into experimental group and control group, with 40 cases in each. The patients in the experimental group used the new compression band and those in the control group traditional compression band. The compression band was used after surgery until the discharge. Pain score in the operation area, subcutaneous congestion, postoperative drainage, postoperative hospitalization days, wearing comfort score and patients' satisfaction with the band were compared between the two groups. Results The pain score was significantly lower in the experimental group than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The score of wearing comfort in the experimental group and the satisfaction rate with the band were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The new compression band helps to reduce postoperative pain of patients undergoing endoscopic trans-axillary thyroid surgery and improve the comfort and satisfaction of patients.
