Influence of Perceived Professional Benefits on Career Planning of Nurses in One Tertiary Grade-A Hospital

Abstract: Objective To explore the current situation of nurses' career planning and its influence factors.Methods A total of 492 clinical nurses from one tertiary gradeA hospital in Jining City, Shandong Province were surveyed by using general information questionnaire, Nurses’ Perceived Professional Benefits Scale(NPPB) and Self Career Management Questionnaire(SCM).Results The total score of nurses’ career planning was 48.60±5.06, and that of nurses’ perceived professional benefit 122.35±7.46. Sex, age, education background, position, titles, human relations, monthly income, whether the provincial and above professional nurse were influence factors of career planning(P<0.05). Nurses ’ perceived professional benefit was positively correlated with career planning (r=0.411, P<0.01). Stratified regression analysis showed that after controlling the general data, positive occupational perception and team regression in perceived professional benefit were influencing factors of career planning, explaining 14.6% of the total variation.Conclusion Both nurses’ perceived professional benefit and career planning are at a moderately positive level. Sex, age,education background, position, titles, human reIations, monthly income, whether the provincial and above professional nurse and positive occupational perception and team regression will affect self-career planning to varying degrees.
