Abstract Based on the collected time-lagged samples from 248 employees, the present study examines whether, how, and when could coaching leadership shapes employees’ subjective career success by adopting social cognitive theory and a Pygmalion effect reasoning. Empirical results suggest that coaching leadership is positively associated with subjective career success. Visualizing successful performance mediates the above relationship. Employees’ self-efficacynot only strengthens the positive relationship between visualizing successful performance and subjective career success, but also adjusts the indirect effect of visualizing successful performance.
