Demand of Integration of Medical Care and Health Services for Community Elderly in Jinan: A Qualitative Study

Abstract: Objective To understand the demand for the integration of medical care and health services for community elderly in Jinan,and to provide theoretical basis for the demand-oriented community home-based care system. Methods Fifteen elderly people selected by maximum variation sampling method were surveyed, and the qualitative data were analyzed by Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis method. Results Eight themes were extracted according to the survey as followed: the attitude toward old-age care and choices of the elderly, attitude toward and comment on the integration of medical care and health services, demand for specialized medical and nursing services, health management, demand for cultural life, health preserving of traditional Chinese medicine, and government policy support. Conclusion Elderly people have a strong demand for community home-based care services. The development of integration of medical care and health services can satisfy the demands of the elderly in the community.
