Abstract: Objective To explore the categories and influencing factors of father involvement during infancy. Methods Convenience sampling was used to select 343 fathers of infants from a health care service center in Daqing City for a questionnaire survey from January 2022 to February 2023. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was conducted to explore the categories of father involvement during infancy, and binary logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors. Results There were two latent categories of father involvement during infancy: low father involvement group (40.3%) and high father involvement group (59.7%). No alcohol consumption (OR=2.079, 95%CI:1.249~3.460); attending an antenatal course (OR=1.867, 95%CI:1.001~3.483), being considerate and caring towards their wives (OR=2.844, 95%CI:1.469~5.505), low depression score (OR=0.909, 95%CI:0.845~0.977), high parenting competence score (OR=1.032, 95%CI:1.006~1.059), and high social support score (OR=1.045, 95%CI:1.002~1.089) were influencing factors of high father involvement group. Conclusion There are two different potential categories of father involvement during infancy. Healthcare professionals should focus on fathers in “low father involvement group”, and pay attention to the characteristics of father involvement in terms of alcohol consumption, participation in antenatal classes, and care for their wives, so as to promote father involvement during infancy by targeted measures such as alleviating paternal depression, increasing the parenting sense of competence, and improving social support.
