Abstract: Objective To investigate the status quo of social alienation in young patients with newly-treated pulmonary tuberculosis and analyze its influencing factors. Methods A total of 321 young newly-treated tuberculosis patients registered in tuberculosis designated hospitals in Kashgar and Hetian, Xinjiang from January 2022 to April 2023 were selected as the study objects by convenient sampling. The general information questionnaire, General Alienation Scale, Tuberculosis Stigma Scale and simple version of Disease Perception Questionnaire were used to conduct the survey. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of social alienation in young patients with newly-treated tuberculosis. Results The total score of social alienation was [41.00(35.00,44.00)]. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that sex, education level, family per capita monthly income, disease perception and stigma were the influencing factors of social alienation in young patients with newly-treated tuberculosis (P<0.05), accounting for 39.9% of the total variation. Conclusion Young patients with newly-treated pulmonary tuberculosis have a moderate level of social alienation. More attention should go to female patients, those less-educated, with lower family income, higher disease perception, and stronger stigma. The integration of social resources, more social support, timely psychological intervention, popularization of tuberculosis-related knowledge, and correction of negative cognition should be considered.

Key words: young people, tuberculosis, social alienation, disease perception, stigma
