Learning experience of social practice in Geriatric Nursing of nursing undergraduates: a phenomenological study

Abstract: Objective To analyze the learning experience of social practice in Geriatric Nursing of nursing undergraduates and to promote the teaching effect. Methods Purposive sampling was used to select 12 nursing students who participated in social practice for semi-structured interview, and the data were analyzed by Colaizzi analysis. Results Six themes with eight subthemes were formulated from the data, including improving the awareness of caring for the elderly; promoting nursing students' growth; a good learning approach; inadequate knowledge reserve, irreplaceable role of practice teaching; students' reflection on the current situation of elderly in China (rural elderly in poverty and poor health literacy) through social practice. Conclusion Social practice teaching enhance the awareness of caring for the elderly and improve the teaching effect in nursing undergraduates.
