Multi-department Grid Management in General Hospital during COVID-19 Epidemic

Abstract: Objective To summarize the experience of multi-department grid management in non-infectious disease wards in a tertiary grade-A hospital during the period of COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control, so as to provide reference for caretaker management in general hospitals during major epidemic period. Methods We set up caretaker management team consisting of nursing administration department, medical affair department, security department, infection control center, information center, accounting department, patient service center, and logistics department. Based on the concept of grid management and caretaker requirements, after formulating management standard for inpatient care, various systematical measures were implemented including inspection through the Internet, effective communication by using information technology and service quality improvement through real-time data feedback. Results From February 3rd 2020 to March 31th 2020, a total of 5,520 inpatient caretakers in general medical areas were screened, of which 23 cases demonstrated abnormal temperature; 12 cases were suspected COVID-19 patients and but no case was confirmed. And no confirmed case of COVID-19 was found among caretakers and medical staff and there were no complaints. The survey rate of epidemiological history of caretakers in ward and protection knowledge of caretakers reached 100% and the qualified rate of signing special epidemic notice 98.58%. Qualification rate of hand hygiene facilities was 100%; mask-wearing rate of caretakers in general wards 91.41%, and the correct rate of mask-wearing 83.38%. Conclusion The multi-department grid management is effective for the management of caretakers in non-infectious disease wards of general hospitals during the epidemic.
