Qualitative Research on Care Experience of Relative Caregivers of Hospice Patients with Oncology

Abstract: Objective To explore the actual psychological experience and needs of relative caregivers of hospice patients with oncology, to provide reference for formulating scientific support programs and promoting caregivers' physical and mental health and living quality. Methods With phenomenological analysis of qualitative research, data of 9 relative caregivers of hospice patients with oncology were collected through deep interviews, and Colaizzi method was used to analyze and sort out the theme. Results 5 themes were identified: multidimensional psychological experience; social role maladjustment; economic burden change; strong demand for information and positive coping style in the care process. Conclusion The care experience of caregivers of patients in hospice care needs to be concerned and supported by medical staff. Life and death education should be strengthened, professional knowledge, social and psychological support should be provided, and family meetings should be held to help them get through this special period.
