Abstract: Objective To explore pain experience and cognition of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and provide reference for targeted nursing measures. Methods Guided by the phenomenological research method, we conducted in-depth interviews among 17 PD patients suffering pain. Six questions were included in the interview as described as follows: (1) Do you know anything about pain associated with PD? (2) Could you rate the intensity of pain according to the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and what is the highest score? Could you please tell us about your feelings? (3) How did you respond when you experienced pain? (4) Have you told your caregivers or medical staff about your pain? (5) Do you think that the care and support of your caregivers and friends are important to your recovery? (6) What kind of help do you want when facing Parkinson's disease pain? Results Three themes were extracted including deep pain experiences; shortage of ways of coping with pain; insufficient pain response. Conclusion Pain seriously affects the quality of life of patients with PD and great attention should be paid to patients' pain experience. Health education, home care, more social support, evaluation and treatment of pain and pain management benefit establishing a standardized pain management mode and improving the quality of life of patients with PD.
