Abstract  Based on social comparison theory, this study has examined the impact of relational strength variability within the supplier network on the buyer’s knowledge acquisition from the supplier network.A study based on samples of 158 manufacturer-supplier networks in China suggests that relational strength variability within the supplier network is positively related to the buyer’s knowledge acquisition from the supplier network.Further, this study decomposes technological heterogeneity of the supplier network into technological difference among suppliers and technological difference between the buyer and suppliers, and examines their moderating effects. The result suggests that the positive relationship above is weakened when there exists high technological difference both among suppliers and between the buyer and suppliers.
