Abstract From a ‘mianzi’ perspective of Chinese native culture, this study uses the ability-based mianzi stress as the mediator variable and organization offered inducements as the moderator variable to explore the influence mechanism of organization expected contributions (OECs) on employee creativity. We have conducted large-scale questionnaire surveys of three types of employees such as the manager, industrial worker, and R&D personnel in 90 big or middle manufacturing enterprises. The results show that OECs has an inverted U-shape effect on employee’s ability-based mianzi stress and creativity respectively; employee’s ability-based mianzi stress shows a mediating role on the inverted U-shape relationship between OECs and employee creativity; and the interaction effect between OECs and OOIs has obviously strengthened employee creativity through a mediating role of employee’s ability-based mianzi stress.
