Abstract From the perspective of family embeddedness and based on self-determination theory, this study proposes that family environment boots entrepreneurial passion, by the mediating role of basic psychological needs satisfaction. Using survey data collected from 181 entrepreneur-family member triads, we find an indirect positive relationship between supportive family environment and entrepreneurs’ harmonious passion through the partial mediating effect of basic psychological needs satisfaction in the entrepreneurial domain. We also find the indirect positive effect of thwarting family environment on entrepreneurs’ obsessive passion through the total mediating effects of basic psychological needs satisfaction in entrepreneurial domain and family domain.
