Abstract Management academic journals are the media of communication that bridge the management research and practice, and play a critical role to facilitate the internal knowledge circulation among academic research and the external knowledge circulation between the academic research and practice. From the point of the gap between management research and practice, current management academic journals merely encourage the internal management knowledge circulation because of indistinct journal orientation and the mode of review and ranking. To successfully realize the internal and external management knowledge circulation, this study proposes that management academic journals can be divided into source journals and professional journals according to the type of academic research, and then puts forward the mode of review and ranking correspondingly.
