Abstract There are three main problems of losing research methods in Chinese management academia: i) dual losing, that is the papers on firstclass academic journals use complex and void research methods while the papers on thirdclass academic journals use clippaste methods; ii) quantitative modeling dominate the management academia and the other empirical research methods are disregarded; iii) rigid translation of English concepts. These problems contribute a lot of useless achievements of Chinese scholars. The paper proposes to establish the correct values, reform the academic evaluation system, support nonmainstream research methods and attach importance to qualitative research methods. It argues that if it is difficult to change the academic environment in the short term, management researchers could change themselves.
