Abstract:Based on the perspective of technology catching up and overtaking, this study discusses the characteristics and stage changes of the technological capability of advanced manufacturing enterprises in China. On the basis of exploratory analysis of the stage changes of Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., the hidden Markov model is applied to construct the implicit state and observation state matrix of the hierarchical stage of enterprise technical capability, and the model is evaluated and decoded. It is found that the technological capability of advanced manufacturing enterprises in China can be divided into four stages: experience learning, exploratory research, independent R&D and technology leading, which can be leapt step by step or leapfrogged in stages. Enterprises in different stages of technological capability have differentcatching uppaths, and the choice of appropriate catching up mode is helpful to break through the bottleneck of technological catching up and overtaking.
