Abstract:Our present paper argues the relationship between organization's upper echelon and acquirement of legitimacy with the perspective of institutional theory and upper echelon theory. Specifically, we suggest that symbolic management behaviors which upper echelon use appropriately can help organization gain legitimacy, which is a common phenomenon in the research of Symbolic Management. It is also a strategybased perspective in the research of legitimacy. Our paper gives a theoretical frame of this perspective.
