Abstract: Objective To understand the psychological feelings and experience of new psychiatric nurses suffering verbal violence from patients, to analyze the effects of verbal violence, and explore and optimize corresponding interventions. Methods Convenience sampling was used to select 13 new psychiatric nurses for face-to-face, individualized in-depth interview. Quantitative data were counted as categorical variables for frequency, and were organized by using Colaizzi analysis to extract the themes. Results The peak of verbal violence occurred at six months of work, and the psychological feelings and experience of new psychiatric nurses included aggression, fear, helplessness, anger, and indifference. Conclusion New psychiatric nurses are at a critical stage in their careers and are more likely to experience verbal violence and a range of psychological feelings. More attention should go to verbal violence and psychological feelings and experience of new psychiatric nurses. Post-intervention, guidelines and training should be considered.
