Abstract: Objective To investigate the current status of nicotine dependence among smoking stroke patients in Tianjin Brain Hospital and analyze its influencing factors. Methods A total of 207 stroke patients admitted to the Neurology Department of Tianjin Brain Hospital from December 2020 to March 2021 were selected to conduct a questionnaire survey using general information questionnaire, Smoking Questionnaire, Fagerstorm Test for Nicotine Dependence and Smoking Abstinence Self-efficacy Scale. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of nicotine dependence in smoking stroke patients. Results The total score of nicotine dependence in smoking stroke patients was 4.90±2.40. Nicotine dependence in smoking stroke patients with different age, education background, family monthly income, average daily amount of smoking, smoking attitude, family smoking regulations, rules on smoking in workplace, hours of secondhand smoke exposure per week, presence of smoking abstinence and self-efficacy score of smoking abstinence showed statistical significance (P<0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that average daily amount of smoking, family smoking regulations, hours of secondhand smoke exposure per week, and the total self-efficacy score of smoking abstinence were the influencing factors of nicotine dependence, explaining 62.9% of the variation in nicotine dependence. Conclusion Nicotine dependence of stroke patients with smoking in neurology department is at moderate level. Medical staff should pay more attention to and advise smoking patients to reduce daily amount of smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke, and improve their self-efficacy in smoking abstinence. The regulation and restriction of smoking should be strengthened in the family, and the dissuasion and supervision from family members can reduce their dependence on nicotine, so as to promote their success in smoking abstinence.
