Application of Health Education Based on Dietary Goals in Patients with Primary Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of using diet goal setting health education strategy to promote the diet management of patients with primary type 2 diabetes. Methods Eighty patients with primary type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into observation group (n=40) and control group (n=40) randomly. The control group was treated with individualized health education for 6 times and a 24-week FAQ. According to goal setting strategy, the observation group carried out diet management through evaluating diet problems, setting diet goals, accurately calculating main food volume, making plans, feedback adjustment, and modifying the plan. Diet self-management and glycosylated hemoglobin were evaluated before and 6 months after the intervention.Results The glycosylated hemoglobin and the proportion of patients with severe emotional disorder in diabetes mellitus were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05), the scores of dietary self-management in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Based on diet goal setting is an effective health education strategy in diabetic diet education, which benefits promoting diet management, improving metabolism and alleviating emotional disorder.
