Abstract: Objective To conduct a scoping review of studies regarding social support in prediabetes population to analyze the relationship between prediabetes and social support, the need for and current status of social support in prediabetes population, and to provide reference for the development of diabetes prevention programs in community-based primary healthcare services. Methods Following the methodology of scoping review, we retrieved literature systematically from Chinese and English databases including PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, Scopes, MEDLINE, and the CBM, with a timeframe spanning from the inception to November 20, 2023. Results Thirty-eight papers from 21 countries were included. A comb of the literature revealed that low social support was associated with the prevalence of prediabetes among females, negative health behaviors, and psychological status; primary care service played an important role in providing social support for this population; and there was still an imbalance between the demand and supply of social support for prediabetes populations. Conclusion Domestic studies should pay more attention to the social support for people with prediabetes; primary healthcare institutions should leverage their own roles and mobilize families and communities to enhance social support for individuals with prediabetes.

Key words: prediabetes, social support, scoping review
