Effect of diversified environmental intervention on preoperative anxiety and anesthesia-induced compliance in preschool children with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Abstract: Objective To explore the application effect of diversified environmental interventions on preoperative anxiety and anesthesia induction compliance in preschool children with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Method Eighty-nine children with OSAS were selected and grouped into two groups according to their visit time. Forty-seven patients in waiting area before environmental optimization from September 2021 to May 2022 were assigned to control group, and forty-two after environmental optimization from June 2022 to February 2023 were assigned to observation group. Preoperative anxiety, anesthesia-induced compliance, blood pressure, and heart rate of the two groups of preschool children were observed and compared. Results There was no statistical significance in anxiety between the two groups on the first day of visit (T0) before surgery (P>0.05). Anxiety in the observation group during the waiting period for surgery (T1) and before anesthesia induction (T2) was less severe than that in the control group (P<0.05). The compliance of anesthesia induction in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). There was no statistical significance in blood pressure and heart rate between the two groups on T0 (P>0.05), while the observation group had better control of blood pressure and heart rate than the control group before anesthesia induction (T2) (P<0.05). Conclusion Diversified environmental interventions can reduce preoperative anxiety, improve their compliance with anesthesia induction, and stabilize their blood pressure and heart rate in preschool children with OSAS.
