Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of motivational interviewing based on psychological recovery model on anxiety, depression and post-traumatic growth (PTG) in patients with primary liver cancer. Methods Convenient sampling method was used to select 100 patients with primary liver cancer from September 2020 to May 2021. And they were divided into control group (n=50) and observation group (n=50). The control group was given conventional psychological care and the observation group an additional motivational interviewing based on psychological recovery model. The score of PTG, anxiety and depression in the 2 groups before intervention, 1 month and 3 months after discharge was compared. Results There was no statistically significant difference between the total score and the score of each dimension of PTG, and the score of anxiety and depression of the two groups before the intervention (P>0.05). There was statistically significant difference between the total score and the score of each dimension of PTG, and the score of anxiety and depression of the two groups 1 month and 3 months after intervention (P<0.05). The total score and the score of each dimension of PTG of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, indicating statistical significance (P<0.05). The score of anxiety and depression in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05) in terms of the total score, the score of each dimension of PTG and, anxiety and depression at different time points, and there was an interaction effect between group and time (P<0.05). Conclusion The motivational interviewing based on psychological recovery model can effectively enhance the level of PTG, improve the anxiety and depression in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, and thus improve the level of psychological adaptation and quality of life.
