Best Evidence Summary of Clinical Nursing Shift

Abstract: Objective To retrieve and collect the best evidence for clinical nursing shift, and to provide reference for clinical practice. Methods A computer search of the databases of BMJ Best Practice, Up To Date, Cochrane library, JBI, NICE, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, CNKI, CBM, Wanfang, and VIP for evidence on nursing shift was performed based on the "6S" evidence model. The retrieval period was from the inception of the databases to February 19, 2022. Quality evaluation, evidence extraction and aggregation of relevant literature were conducted by two to five researchers independently. Results Twenty pieces of literature were collected (1 guideline, 3 evidence summaries, 13 systematic evaluations, 3 best evidence-based practices); seventy-two pieces of evidence were extracted, and 35 pieces of best evidence were summarized into 6 categories, including: standardized/structured nursing shift, shift scenes, shift management, shift training, shift implementation, shift quality control and feedback. Conclusion This study summarizes the best evidence of nursing shift and provides evidence-based reference for clinical nursing shift. The evidence should be selectively used in the shift according to the specific situation of the hospital and department, so as to improve the quality of clinical nursing shift.
