Abstract: Objective To systematically evaluate qualitative studies on experience of patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). Methods Qualitative studies on the experience of patients with ICD were retrieved from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, Chinese Biomedical Database, PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus and Web of Science with the retrieval time from the inception to December 5, 2021. The quality of the literature was evaluated according to the Australian Evidence-based Health Care Centre 2016 quality research Quality Assessment criteria, and the final results were integrated according to the meta-integration method. Results Twenty-one articles were collected; 126 themes were extracted and classified into 9 categories. Three themes were integrated: psychosocial changes brought by device implantation and shock experience on the edge of life and death; self-adjustment for accepting and adapting to the existence of device during the rehabilitation; multiple co-existed challenges with the device, and seeking external support and help. Conclusion Nurses should pay attention to the psychosocial experience of patients, provide intervention after shocking timely, evaluate individual differences in equipment acceptance, and patients’ care needs and improve continuous care services, so as to improve the quality of life of the patients.
