Empirical Research on Effect of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point System in Management of Surgical Specimens

Abstract: Objective To explore the application effect of hazard analysis and critical control point(HACCP) system in the management of surgical specimens. Methods A nonsynchronous pre and post control design was adopted, and 2,560 surgical specimens from the central operating room from March to June 2020 were selected as the control group with routine management; 2,987 surgical specimens from July to October 2020 as the experimental group managed by nurse-led HACCP system, which covered hazard factor analysis; critical control point and critical value identification;development of process monitoring system for corrective measures, self-verification and recording. The effect of HACCP system was verified by comparing qualified rate of surgical specimen management, nursing quality management score and satisfaction of medical staff between the two groups. Results The qualified rate of operation specimen management in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group, and the submitting time of operation specimen in the experimental group was shorter than that in the control group. The satisfaction of the medical staff in the experimental group was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Nurse-led HACCP system is effective in surgical specimen management. With the focus on prevention and critical control point, effective measures are taken for timely and efficient submitting of surgical specimen, less safety risks and accurate management of surgical specimens. HACCP system is conducive to improving qualified rate of surgical specimen management and reducing the deficiency in specimen management.
