Abstract From software industry in Guangzhou, one CEO ego social network consisting of 61 companies, two company spin-off networks and productbased competitive relationship networks consisting of 578 companies were constructed. The above models were compared by social network analysis and complex network theories. It is shown that CEO ego social network is characterized by the closure; the complex competitive relationship network with power law degree distribution is characterized by small world in Guangzhou software industry. The relationships between company spin-off network and the complex network were also studied.
