Abstract In this paper, the discriminant criteria for the deviation of management theory from practice, which include the origin and the destination, chain of application, practitioner perception and time and space adaptability are developed by inductive reasoning, deductive reasoning and analysis of contradictions. It further analyzes the underlying internal and external causes and puts forward some important points of view such as the application chain of management theory is too long, management researchers are losing their customers, both practical value and academic value should be used in academic evaluation and three indicators of quoter, readers and users should be respectively used to evaluate different types of researchers.
