Abstract  The research on collaborative creation mechanism of online encyclopedias is helpful to deepen the understanding of group collaboration model. Based on Piaget’s constructivism theory, this study constructs a collaborative evolution model of collaborative creation system of online encyclopedias from a cognitive perspective, and emphatically analyzes the mechanism of cognitive difference during system evolution. Taking Baidu Encyclopedia entry—NBA as an example, this paper selects monthly time series data from 2008 to 2019 and uses vector autoregressive models to empirically analyze the comovements of cognitive difference, group size and information quality. The results show that cognitive difference is the internal driving force of collaborative creation, and have a significant positive impact on group size and information quality, and medium-level cognitive difference has the most significant impact on group size and information quality.
