Abstract  Based on the data acquired from 191 questionnaires of manufacturing enterprises in Yangtze River Delta region, this paper carries out a research on the mechanism to drive corporations’ eco-innovation by the interaction between design features(stringency, flexibility and stability) and three types of environmental regulations, namely command and control instrument(CAC), market-based instrument(MBI), and mutual communication instrument(MCI). The results reveal that: ①Stringency has a positive impact on end-of-pipe and cleaner production, while flexibility and stability only have positive impacts on cleaner production; ②The interaction between Stringency and MCI has positive impact both on cleaner production and end-of-pipe, and the interaction between Stringency and CAC only has a positive impact on end-of-pipe, while the interaction between stringency and MBI has a negative impact on end-of-pipe; ③The interaction between flexibility and MCI has a positive impact on cleaner production and end-of-pipe, while the interaction between flexibility and CAC has a negative impact on cleaner production; ④The interaction between Stability and MCI has a positive impact on cleaner production, while the interaction between stability and MBI has a negative impact on end-of-pipe.
