Abstract  How do managers decide on internationalization processes? With manufacturing publicly listed firms in China as main sample, based on longitudinal data (2008~2013), we have examined the relationship among CEO power, international performance, organizational slack and internationalization rhythms of Chinese firms. The findings have shown that there is a positive relationship between CEO power and an irregular internationalization rhythm. Furthermore, international performance moderates the relationship between CEO power and irregular internationalization rhythm by strengthening the relationship, and this relationship is reinforced when organizational slack is high.
