Abstract Youth entrepreneurial teams are the main force of all entrepreneurial teams, and their performances are key to the success of entrepreneurial teams. With 108 youth entrepreneurial teams collected as a sample, the present study utilizes tracking research to explore the influence of psychological compatibility on team performance during four phases of entrepreneurship. Results suggest that during the four phases, psychological compatibility has a significant positive influence on fairness perception, cohesion and performance. Cohesion has a significant mediating effect during each of the 4 phases, but fairness perception has significant mediating effects only in the first and second phases. In addition, psychological compatibility, fairness perception, cohesion and performance vary across the four phases.
