Abstract Factor decomposition method in energy economics and management has an extremely important role and been widely used.This study uses an improved method with data from 2005 to 2011, and shows that the relationship of upgrading of industrial structure and energy consumption is not clear. Arguments are as follows: Firstly, based on previous studies, this study introduces nine kinds of factorization models; then sorts and compares these models to identify links and differences; further, by improving the model we propose a new method of calculation, and carry out empirical research to bring new conclusions. Finally, the nature of the model is summarized and explained. We hope that these studies have a new inspiration on domestic energy economy researchers.
