Abstract Two problems of management research in China are analyzed in the article. The first is about irrational behaviors in the academic world of management. The second is about ethical problems of researchers. We also find possible causes of those problems. Irrational behaviors come from scholars’ failure to understand the relationship between simplicity and complexity, generality and specificity, quantitative and speculative methods, the westernstyle research and the reality of management in China. Ethical problems arise when scholars lack independent academic spirit, blindly worship the west, and pay too much attention to personal interest. At last, advice is given on how to make management research more original and solidly grounded on management practices.
