Abstract Building on overarching theories such as evolution theory, strategic choice theory and the social cognition theory, the study puts forward several key questions as following: How entrepreneurial teams choose the founding strategies for the new ventures? What are roles played by team structures and prior experience? What is the performance implication of founding strategies on new ventures? How founding strategies evolve under the imprinting forces and changing forces? How persistent the influences will last. Based on systematic literatures reviews, a comprehensive research model is developed and future research directions are discussed.
